Drum Theme Week – Free Drumming Clinic
FREE CLINIC: THE DRUMMING ALPHABET
Join our drum faculty Matt Wallace & Mike Siracusa as they demonstrate how to use the rhythmic alphabet (triplets and 16th note) in Rock, Pop, Jazz and Latin music. They’ll give tips and tricks on ways to memorize the alphabet and how to practice them as well as how to improvise over a melody in the above styles mentioned. This clinic is free for all Merriam Music students.
This clinic is open to all students at no cost, and no experience required!

MATT WALLACE: Matthew Wallace is a professional drum instructor and musician. At a very early age he fell in love with drumming, but more specifically, heavy metal music. Early on in his music studies he had the opportunity to play in shows and toured with progressive metal band Ava Maria. Matt later attended Humber College where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Music. During his time in college he focused his attention on Jazz music. He has studied with some of the top musicians in Toronto including Mark Kelso, Brian Dickinson, Barry Romberg, Shirantha Beddage, Alex Dean, Mark Promane, Chris Lesso, Denzal Sinclaire and Kirk MacDonald. He has also performed with Grammy award winning saxophonist Joe Lovano and Donny Mccaslin and can be found performing throughout Toronto.
MIKE SIRACUSA: Mike Siracusa is currently the Creator and Director of the Band Chops Program at The Merriam School of Music where he has been a member of the faculty for the past 18 years. Many students have benefited from Mike’s teaching experience through song writing, drum and guitar lessons. Several have been accepted into some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in North America. They are now enjoying successful careers as musicians. Mike has been performing for over 33 years. He also produces, arranges and composes for many bands, artists, TV and radio shows. He has been writing and recording his own music for over 35 years.
